The Manchester derby is arguably the best rivalry in all of football and never fails to entertain. Who was it going to be? Manchester city who was on their 21 win streak or Manchester United with their 21 away games streak? Manchester City who is on top of the premier league or Manchester United who is second in the premier league? Which English top dog was going to prevail and determine the color of Manchester?
Manchester United determined that Manchester is surely still red. They beat city 2-1 with amazing goals from Shaw and Fernandes. Man City may be winning the premier League but it looks like it’ll take a lot more for them to beat their long-going rivals. Let’s hope that City bounces back from this devastating win and continues to stay at the top of the table.
These two days also had two other great derbies taking place in Europe. Firstly, in Germany, Bayern managed to beat Dortmund due to Lewandowski’s hattrick. While ManU may have stolen the spotlight, the best derby game certainly belong to Borussia and Munich. Within the first ten minutes, Haaland managed to score two goals for Dortmund but soon after the tides turned against them and Bayern continued to score until the 90th minute. This game was fast-paced and unpredictable. It was a tre delight to watch with a close 4-2.
Elsewhere in the Spanish Madrid derby, neither team managed to score more than a goal and the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Benzema saved Real at the 88th minute with a close goal but fortunately for Atletico, Suarez had already scored in the 15th minute preventing a loss for them. This game wasn’t as exciting as the other two but still well played.
Speaking of Spain, it turns out that there is still hope for Barcelona. In a surprising but fortunate turn of events, Barca managed to score thrice against Sevilla leading to a win in the match and Copa Del Rey semi aggregate. This means that Barcelona will be advancing and playing the Copa Del finals against Atheltic club on 17th April. Many Barca fans had given up hope during the game since Barca had just scored on goal at the end of ninety minutes and their chances of advancing were bleak due to Sevilla scoring two goals against them in their first match. But right at the last minute of full time, Griezmann passed the ball to Pique who miraculously scored a goal. The aggregate of the game was then 2-2 and the game went into extra time. A minute in extra time and Martin Braithwaite scored a goal a minute into the ET. After that, it was just yellow and red cards for Sevilla and soon enough the lost their oh-so-hopeful game. This was certainly an amazing comeback of Barcelona and has led to high morales and spirit among fans and the players for the upcoming UCL match against PSG. After all, we don’t expect Barcelona to go down so easy anymore.
