The FIFA awards did not disappoint as usual. The FIFA Player of the Year was Lionel Messi for the sixth time. Virgil Van Dijk on a very close second position and Ronaldo was third. The nominations revealed that Messi did add Ronaldo to his nominations but Ronaldo did not do the same. He also didn’t attend the awards. But the classiest act was by Van Dijk putting Messi as his top nomination even though he knew that he was his top contender and that his very act could make Messi win. Megan Rapinoe won the Female FIFA player of the year. Jill Ellis and Jurgen Klopp were the female and male coaches of the year respectively. Daniel Zsori won the Puskas award for his magnificent goal and Messi was runner up. There are rumors about the award being rigged for Messi but that is very unlikely since Modric won the award last year and FIFA isn’t known to be partial towards the GOATs. Also, the Ballon D’Or will probably be a very close call between fan favourites VVD from Liverpool and LM from Barcelona, but it would be a mistake to leave Juve star player CR7 out. So, may the best player win.
