If you are not quite familiar with the Dutch Giants, you may as well remember from the 2018-19 season of the Champions league. They were the underdogs during the round of 16 as they were not very well known outside of Europe. And if that wasn’t enough, they were up against the then reigning champions, Real Madrid. I myself was pretty sure that Real Madrid would have an easy win but I was totally and completely wrong. Ajax defeated Real Madrid at their home ground with a whopping aggregate of 5-3. This was surely a great day for Barcelona fans and a day of intense sorrow for their rivals, Real Madrid. They then faced the Italian Champions, Juventus with their newly reformed attack that with Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of our generation, and managed to defeat them in the quarter finals too, with immense perseverance and hard work. They may have fallen in the semis against the english Spurs, but they sure did that with certain grace that won our hearts. I may not be an Ajax fan but I would be a fool to deny that they were competent and deserved all they respect they got in the Champions league. None the less, today I just want to acknowledge the magic that works at Ajax as they birthed many great footballers like Cryuff, Zlatan and Suarez to name a few. Their enigmatic academy needs to be acknowledged as they have helped in the rise of two other men this season, Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs De Ligt. Barca and Juve are lucky to have Frenkie and De Ligt in their respective squads of this season and the two men sure are lucky to be in such prestigious clubs, along with the presence of Messi and Ronaldo. Let’s also not forget De Beek who still remains at Ajax and helped them a great deal to achieve what they did in the Champions League. Beware Football/Soccer fans because you never know which underdog team might slip the title of the Champions League won day and I sure wouldn’t mind if it were to be Ajax FC- THE 2018-19 Dream team that blew our mind and won our hearts.
As much as Frenkie is a great fit for Barca, taking a part such self made dream team feels harsh! Woulda loved seeing their UCL “reign” continue tbh
I couldn’t agree more. Both De Ligt and De Jong would’ve been great back at Ajax and could probably win the UCL this time.
